Useful resources for ASD & ADHD
Following our 2nd episode of not another mental health podcast with Niall Coney, we decided to share some useful resources that Niall recommended for those who want some good and useful information about Autism or ADHD. We hope you find them useful!
AUTISMADHDRESOURCES
I was recently honoured to be asked to join not another mental health podcast as a guest for episode 2, it was both an honour and enjoyable experience that I hope gives some people some insight into the many wonders of my brain.
There was a question towards the end around useful resources or links around autism and ADHD and following this, we thought it would be a great idea to quickly formulate some quick resources I personally found incredibly useful or beneficial to those who want to understand more about autism or ADHD. Admittedly most focus is on Autism, but we will likely update this list as I remember more!
A couple of good organisations I would consider looking at:
Autistic Self Advocacy Network (autisticadvocacy.org) - these are quite special as their motto is "Nothing about us, without us" - they are an autistic support network who are run by autistic people themselves.
National Autistic Society (autism.org.uk) - they have some really good guidance and information for all ages.
Useful resources (with links):
Too much information this is a fantastic playlist of short videos showing experiences from an autistic perspective that uses lots of effects and good cinematography to replicate these situations, thoroughly recommend. In particular I recommend video 2 named "Can you make it to the end?"
Educating Different Kinds of Minds | Temple Grandin | TEDx. Dr. Temple Grandin is a very well known autistic individual who has hit the stage with excellent talks about autism. They offer some fantastic advice and guidance from a very successful autistic person.
Understand the Spectrum is a fantastic simple cartoon made by Rebecca Burgess that is suitable for all ages and beautifully explains autism in a simple way.
Asperger Syndrome (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and Long-Term Relationships - this was a great book for those in relationships with someone with autism.
